Mawage. Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam…
~The Impressive Clergyman, The Princess Bride
Today my husband and I celebrate 20 years of mawage.
I’m a grateful bride who’s treated like a princess bride. [Nay, as my children and stepchildren will surely attest, like a QUEEN!]
Our “secrets”? I present you with Exhibit A.
To be successful in mawage, your core values need to overlap. They don’t have to be identical; they just need to overlap (think Venn diagrams).
Dave and I share the core values of faith, family, diligence, healthy lifestyle, honesty, humor, love, loyalty, perseverance, and making a positive difference in the world. Each of us has other values that guide us (Dave considers the Red Sox a core value 9 months out of 12), but those are some of the ones we share.
We’re a great team! I still get excited when Dave comes home from work. He still misses me like crazy when I travel. We support each other through tough times (e.g., prostate cancer, multiple surgeries, multiple sclerosis, deaths of all four of our parents), and together we celebrate the achievements and joys of our children (all seven of them!).
We both like a home that’s neat and orderly. We both enjoy using our talents and abilities to serve our church. We both like schedules and lists (actually, we love them), watching an hour or so of Netflix every evening (sorry, Brett), and exercising four to five times a week.
Wuv, tru wuv, will fowow you foweva… So tweasure your wuv.

I do tweasure our wuv!!!
Thank you, dear Dave, for getting down on bended knee in Lynchburg, VA (20 years six months ago) and asking me to be your bride.
Thank you for helping me raise my beautiful daughters and for loving them unconditionally. Thank you for never ever yelling at me or disrespecting me. Thank you for helping me live up to my God-given potential.
Thank you for helping me feel safe and secure and loved.
You. Are. Amazing.
And Hallelujah. Praise The Lord.
You Are Mine.
Happy Anniversary, My Love!
