Plain and simple. To be successful as an entrepreneur, you must put your heart in your business. All of it. All of YOU!
I do not mean put all of your time into your business. No, ma’am. “Just” your heart. Feel better?
Put Your Heart in Your Business to Attract the People You’re Meant to Serve
Have you ever sensed that:
- the salesperson approaching doesn’t really want to assist you?
- the telemarketer calling only wants to meet her daily quota?
- the accountant/attorney/insurance agent sitting across the table from you would rather be anywhere else in the world but meeting with clients?
If you’re in a service-oriented business, you must have a heart for the service you perform! Otherwise, you will provide lackluster assistance at best…and your customers and clients will find somebody else to love.
To attract the people you’re meant to serve, you must:
- genuinely like them
- genuinely seek to meet their needs, wants, and desires
- genuinely speak to them in a language that shows you care
But wait. There’s more.
Put Your Heart In Your Business To Fulfill Your Calling!
Who did God create you to be? Who are you at your core? To be fully expressed, to be fully engaged…
- You must share the essence of your being.
- You must share the essence of your soul.
- You must share your heart with your customers, clients, and prospects.
- You must share your heart with the people you’re meant to serve.
Do I mean you must be totally vulnerable and totally transparent with the public at large? Others might think so, but I err on the side of discretion. I was brought up with, “Don’t air your dirty laundry in public,” and “Don’t wear your feelings on your sleeve.” So…
I’m inclined not to share everything. (You’re welcome.)
What I mean is we should be vulnerable enough to express our true essence as we work in and on and through our business.
We should be as vulnerable as we need to be to fulfill our calling through our work.
Do that and you will lovingly draw to you the people you’re meant to serve!
Put Your Heart In Your Business to Dispel Limiting Beliefs
If you’re like me (and I know you are or you wouldn’t still be reading this post), you are beset by dragons now and then.
Really ugly scary dragons that want to stomp you to the ground and breathe fire all over you and your unrealistic visions, hopes, and dreams.
Really ugly scary dragons that started out as tiny seemingly harmless dragon-lings — passing thoughts — that turned into larger-than-life, life-sucking beliefs.
Beliefs like, “Everybody else can be a successful entrepreneur. Why not me?”
When you put your heart in your business, you connect with your divine nature.
You invite the Holy Spirit to empower you and work through you.
You partner up with God.
And if God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31)
For we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus who loves us (Romans 8:37).
We are fully equipped to slay those dragons!!
No matter how ugly and fiery they may be.
Know your purpose and put your heart in your business if you genuinely want to glorify God through success.
From my heart to yours… thank you for visiting my site and pondering these reflections.

Interesting essay on striking a balance between forthcoming and discretion. Personally, I like discretion in public venues and openness in one on one conversations.

Thank you for your comment, Rachel.

Jory, I love this post! I could just picture that really ugly scary dragon!! Those larger-than-life, life-sucking beliefs can drag us down to the point where we just don’t believe that we can do it. Thank you for reminding us that our heart must be in our business.

I agree Jory everyone should put their heart in their business otherwise what is the point in being in business. People can sense if you really believe in what you are doing and saying and if your heart isn’t in it then it will show through and most likely lose you business.

Thanks, Linda! Amen and amen!

Those are great tips and ideas Jory.
I am a strong proponent of the race to eliminate the un-biblical dichotomy of work and ministry.
with my heart in it,

And it shows, Martin. And it shows….
I admire who you are, what you stand for, and how you “show up” in the marketplace.
Thank you!
