Do limiting beliefs about money limit our income???
Yes.
If you’re a business owner with conflicted feelings about money, prosperity, and wealth, you need to resolve that conflict and resolve it fast!
Many women of faith I’ve worked with struggle to answer the same questions I had when first embarking on the entrepreneurial journey:
- Is it right to charge amply for my services—even if my prospective client says she can’t afford it?
- Is it better to use my gifts and talents in ministry rather than business?
- What’s the biblical perspective of abundance, prosperity, and wealth?
- Isn’t monetary success selfish?
I think I’ve studied every Scripture verse that even remotely relates to the topic of money.
My conclusion? It’s our “why” that matters. Our motivation. Our perspective. Our intent. Our priorities. Our heart.
Why do YOU desire to prosper?
If your motives are pure…
If you long to serve others generously…
If you resolve to use your resources wisely…
Then let it be.
Let’s look at the Bible since, for many of us, certain Scripture verses appear to be the source of our angst. The issue is not money, it’s not profit, it’s GREED.
Luke 12:15
“…Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
1 Timothy 6:10
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
1 Timothy 6:17-19
“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.”
1 Peter 5:1-5
“[Elders], be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers—not because you must but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.”
Contrast those admonitions against greed with verses like 3 John 1:2-4:
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
and Psalm 37:3-4:
“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
If your motives are pure…
If you long to serve others generously…
If you resolve to use your resources wisely…
Then so be it.
If you think you shouldn’t have a strong, healthy profit motive as a grounded-in-faith business owner….
If you think you don’t deserve to earn a strong, healthy profit…
You won’t!
“For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” ~Proverbs 23:7
Do limiting beliefs limit our income? Absolutely.
We’ll examine the “But I don’t deserve it” issue next time.
Until then, examine your motivation, your perspective, your intent, your priorities, your heart.
Why do YOU desire to earn money?
