Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
9 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
~King David (Psalm 8)
2020 is not humanity’s first year of upheaval, discord, and unrest — nor will it be the last. Would that we all prayed the praises and meditations of King David. Each and every day.
Why? How can praising the Lord help us in times of conflict and turmoil? Consider this.
We’re in the midst of an identity crisis.
Whether individual, group, or our nation as a whole, many are conflicted about who we are, whose we are, where we came from, and where we’re going.
God has made us a little lower than the angels. The same God who created our Earth (7,926 miles in diameter), our Sun (19 Earths), Arcturus (25 Suns), and the VY Canis Majoris (1.7 billion miles in diameter) created US!
And He crowned us with glory and honor.
The same God who created the 400 billion Stars in the Milky Way created US!
The same God who created the Aurora Borealis created US!
And He crowned us with glory and honor.
Moreover…
Each Of Us Is Made In God’s Image (Genesis 1:26).
We lose sight of that.
- If we consider ourself superior to someone else
- If we consider ourself inferior to someone else
- If we consider ourself better than someone else
- If we consider ourself worse than someone else
Then we have failed to think of that “someone else” as a child of God and/or we have failed to think of our own self as a child of God. We have failed to consider that all of humanity has been crowned with glory and honor by our Creator.
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His Hands.
Psalm 19:1
WE are the work of His Hands.
In his 22nd Psalm, King David affirms that God inhabits the praises of His people. When we praise God, we open our hearts and minds to God’s power and influence. When we praise God, we invite him to mold us and make us into the spiritual beings He created us to be.
We can then model for others what it means to be crowned with glory and honor. We can then model for others what it means to know who we are, whose we are, where we came from, and where we’re going.
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name!
